This paper serves as an introduction to the basic pharmacology of the major components of Cannabis sativa L., Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol. We consider the molecular targets of these compounds in the form of the endocannabinoid system and reflect on studies exploring therapeutic benefit.
